Expectations & Realism - Hard graft. Real money. ***THIS IS THE BUSIEST TIME OF YEAR ON A NZ DAIRY FARM***

1. are you fit and strong?
2. are you on a working holiday visa?
3. have you had experience with LARGE stock animals, preferably cows?
4. do you have your own transport to get to the farm?
5. can you commit for at least 3 months?
6. can you ride a 2- or 4-wheel motorbike?

IF YOU ANSWERED YES NOW CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING

• Some calves will not make it. DO you understand it's the circle of life?
• It's winter, it's early, it's real farm work. Starts at 3-4am, often in the cold and dark. Days run 10–12 hours.
• Its Dirty. Poo, pee, effluent, chemical smells — this is dairy farming, and it's part of the job every single day.
• It's Hard:
  • on your feet all day, in all weather, 
  • lifting and carrying at least 20kg calves and bags of food etc
• The first 2–3 weeks are the hardest.
  •  your body is building strength and stamina it doesn't have yet. 
  • expect to be tired — that's normal, not a sign you're failing.
• You'll start at the bottom — cleaning, sorting, the repetitive stuff.

$26 - $28.00 per hour. 

Approx 50-60 hours a week (for 1 month) then 50 hrs once all the babies are born
