Looking to make your way around New Zealand in your own car or campervan? Then look no further for a list of other travellers who have done the same and are now selling theirs vehicles.
Travelling in your own car or campervan is a great way to see the country and with relatively cheap petrol and insurance, it's a cost-effective option too. Buying your own vehicle, easpecially an old one, does come with some risks though ...
Try to find out when the vehicle was last serviced and get someone who knows something about cars to check it over for you. Look out for things like rust, oil leaks, broken headlights etc. and check when the date of the next Warrant of Fitness (WOF) test is. There should be a sticker in the vehicle. There are some gems out there and with backpackers often in a hurry to sell before they leave, you could pick up a real bargain. But there's also a possibility that the vehicle may die on you or that you won't be able to sell it at the end of your trip, so don't spend more than you are willing to lose. Bearing this in mind, take a punt and have a fantastic road trip!
:: IMPORTANT: BEWARE OF SCAMMERS
Recently, there have been several reports of scammers using our notice board. Please take care when buying or selling your vehicle.
Buyers: Do have your wits about you when replying to adverts on the internet. NEVER give out bank details to strangers. NEVER pay upfront for goods.
Sellers: Beware of someone wanting to buy your goods using paypal or asking you to send the vehicle overseas, it is a scam.
Remember, if something looks to good to be true, it usually is. Trust your instincts and keep hold of your money if you feel uncomfortable about a deal.
Always exchange goods and money in person.
