Outdoor Activity Assistant

I'm looking for one (or two) enthusiastic and mature individuals to assist me with my outdoor interests. I'm 58 and have been a wheelchair user for 23 years. I relocated 2 years ago to the beach to indulge my interest in outdoor pursuits. I'm a keen hand-cyclist and am currently working on an adaptive kayaking project. After a few false starts I finally have a working prototype that enables me to kayak without the use of a paddle (I have limited grip so paddling is inefficient for me), and I'm keen to do some testing on lakes and in the sea. You'll be assisting with this and will have the use of a kayak that can be paddled or operated with your legs (your choice). You'll also be assisting with other activities including cycling and fishing.

It will be advantageous if you have specific experience with outdoor pursuits but it's not a requirement. However, you will need to be physically capable and confident in outdoor environments. I have 2 medium frame size bikes, including an e-bike, for your use as well as boogie boards etc. I have a smaller 4x4 which you'll be driving at times, frequently with a trailer attached. While we'll be driving in sand and over rocks on occasion, you don't need experience in off-road driving.

You’ll need to be capable of loading/unloading bikes, kayaks into cars and trailers etc. We’ll have assistance when we need it.

My home is modern and comfortable. You'll have your own room (with TV) and bathroom, hi-speed internet and the use of a home gym. We'll generally have evening meals together, which I'll provide. Activities will be dictated as much by the weather as anything else. You can expect to have plenty of time to pursue your own activities. I may provide you with the use of a car depending on circumstances.

Ahipara has a cafe, general store, golf course, and horse-trekking operation. Activities here include swimming, surfing, fishing, playing golf and anything else beach orientated. The town of Kaitaia is a 10 minute drive away and has most services available. 

I'm a non-smoking, social drinker who has an interest in people and the affairs of the World. I've been married and raised 3 children. Despite being an opinionated atheist, I get along with most people, welcome diverse views and like to think I have a sense of humour. I don't like Donald Trump or conspiracy theories and believe in science…just saying:-)

This is an immediate start, short-term position. I'm having surgery on Nov 12 and will be away from home following that and up to Christmas. I anticipate offering a similar role in the New Year.

Requirements - Conversational English, driver's license, NZ bank account and IRD (tax) number. I'll be employing you via my company.
