Dairy Farm Assistant

Fixed Term Dairy Farm Assistant: July - November

We are seeking a Fixed Term Dairy Farm Assistant to help on our dairy farm near Temuka, Canterbury.  The farm is situated 5km from the Temuka township that has all the basic amenities (Supermarket, pharmacy, post office, bank etc).  Temuka itself is approximately 1 hour 20mins drive away from the stunning Lake Tekapo and surrounding Mackenzie country.  Timaru is a quick 20/25 minute drive away.

Day to day tasks would include, milking cows, bringing cows in for milking, setting up and moving break fences, helping with young stock and animal health, cleaning and other general farm duties. You will be working in an experienced and supportive team. 

While specific experience milking cows is not vital, the following skills are:

• an excellent attitude to work and ability to work as part of a team 
• ability to learn and follow training and procedures
• high standard of English in order to communicate and follow instructions
• empathy and interest in working with animals
• current drivers liscense
• working holiday or other right to work Visa is a must 

Experience and or understanding of working with animals, bikes/machinery, and working in all weathers would certainly help with your enjoyment of this job. 

A warm, furnished 3-bedroom house is available.  This is likely to be shared with other temporary farm staff. Firewood on farm free to use and house electricity is covered (to a high cap!) by us.

Roster is 8 days on 2 days off, 8 days on 3 days off.  Outside of the busy August to mid-September calving period we are very open to additional time off as staffing allows.  We encourage and are keen to help you to get away and see the beautiful South Island.  

This position is Fixed Term, starting early July through to early November.
