Mixed Farm Assistant

About the Role:
Join a diverse South Canterbury farming operation combining sheep, beef, pigs, and machinery work, ideal for someone looking for variety and a long-term opportunity.

Located in South Canterbury, just 20 minutes from Timaru, this is an exciting opportunity to join a 265ha mixed farming operation offering genuine variety across sheep, beef, pigs, machinery, and general farm work.

We're ideally looking for someone seeking a long-term role, however we're also open to candidates available for the busy lambing period.

This role would suit someone with previous livestock experience who enjoys practical, hands-on work and wants exposure to a range of farming systems rather than doing the same thing every day.

• Mixed Farm Role - Sheep, Beef & Machinery Work
• Long-term preferred (short-term lambing role considered)
• Pay Rate: Negotiable based on experience
• Location: South Canterbury - 20 mins from Timaru

About the Farm:
The farm includes a mix of:
 

• 780 Romney-cross ewes lambing from late July over a 6-week period
• Beef trading cattle
• Outdoor pig breeding herd operating under PigCare and Freedom Farmed accreditation

Tasks:
 

• Routine sheep stock work and moving fences
• Administering animal treatments and routine animal health tasks
• Assisting with lambing, tailing, vaccinations, and weaning
• Supporting shearing and livestock movements
• Tractor work throughout the season
• Fencing and general farm maintenance
• Assisting with cattle and pig operations as required

Requirements:
 

• Previous livestock experience essential
• Previous experience with pigs is perferred
• Tractor experience required
• Full driver licence essential
• Good stock sense and willingness to learn
• Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors
• Positive attitude and strong work ethic
• Legal right to work in New Zealand
