Farm Assistant For Dairy Farm

We are looking for a person to work on our family dairy farm of 620 cows.  Looking for commitment from 1 October to Mid January 2027    (Depending on applicants and work holiday visa requirements, consider longer term till). Upon applying, please state the length of stay you can commit to.   

The farm is located in mid-canterbury, Ashburton (centre of South Island).  Farm is 18km from Ashburton or Methven townships. 

Rural experience preferred.   Having had milked in a commercial dairy shed and previously worked on a dairy farm during a calving season being an advantage.  But would consider someone very keen to learn the dairy industry in NZ.  Ideally looking for someone who can also drive tractors for supplementary feeding our stock.    

The job: START DATE 1st OCTOBER

Milking cows (2x a day, including bringing cows into shed, setting fence breaks)

Calving season (calving started but you will still be involved in the end of calving)

Weed control 

Cowshed hygiene 

Feed out using tractor 

Setting up break fences for stock

Stock yard work

General farm duties

Attributes for a candidate we require:

Must have a valid driver's license and have own motor vehicle to get about

Be able to communicate effectively in English essential

Have a positive attitude 

Be reliable and committed to the job

Level of physical fitness to be good as on feet a lot of the day and lifting/shifting of calves

Accommodation - house available on farm.  Sharing with one other - max 2 people in 3 bedroom house.   $75 per week rent per person plus power.
