If you love chocolate, (and let’s face it, who doesn’t?) you’ll be in your sweet-toothed element at Dunedin’s Cadbury World, where you can see more chocolate under one roof than you can shake a stick at.
At Cadbury World you’ll find a visitor centre and you can also go on a tour around the chocolate factory. The visitor centre will have your mouth watering straight away, with chocolate-themed displays where you can learn about the history of Cadbury and chocolate through the ages.
Once you’ve got your taste buds tingling, take a fun-filled fascinating guided tour around the Cadbury chocolate factory and you’ll even get some chocolate to sample along the way.
There’s also a visit to a unique chocolate fall housed in a five storey high silo, where you can see one tonne of Cadbury’s chocolate drop before your eyes. It’s a pretty awesome sight. And it smells very good too. You’ll feel like Augustus Gloop at Willy Wonka’s gaff…as long as you don’t fall in and get sucked up any tubes!
Finish your tour off by stocking up at the Cadbury World shop, where you can buy all your favourite Cadbury chocolate and unique Cadbury World merchandise.
If a trip to Cadbury World doesn’t satisfy your sugar craving, then you probably don’t like chocolate!
You can find Cadbury World at 280 Cumberland Street, Dunedin.
The Factory Tour takes approximately 75 minutes. It costs $18 and includes entry to Cadbury World Visitor Centre, a DVD theatre presentation, guided chocolate factory tour and the chocolate fall.
There is a shortened version of the tour, which runs on weekends and public holidays. This tour costs $12 but it does not go into the factory, although it does include entry into the Cadbury World Visitor Centre, the DVD theatre presentation, a demo of the chocolate making process and the chocolate fall.
If you don’t have much time, you could just check out the Cadbury World Visitor Centre. It costs $8 for a 15-minute visit.
Tours generally operate every half hour from 9am until 3.30pm daily, with extended hours during the summer holiday season.
The factory does not operate on weekends, public holidays or during Christmas, New Year and Easter. During these times, reduced tours will operate which do not include visiting the factory.
Don’t forget to wear closed toe, flat comfortable shoes for the factory tour.
