[Hollis]

Kahoe Farms (Kahoe) - small, friendly, clean. Stefano and Lindsay treat you like family

Globetrekkers (Omapere) - on Hokianga Harbour, one of the most beautiful sights I've seen so far. I tasted my first feijoa here. They have a tree in the yard, and there's a fresh bowl full of the fruit every morning.

AND....Both these places have dogs, so you can top up on fuzz therapy if you're missing a pet.

I love:

Picton YHA-
A lovely old house with nice big lockers. Great hosts and great guests. Awesome town on the whole, really felt at home.

St Arnaud YHA (The Yellow House)-
Spent many days here between tramps. Awesome range of people. Very clean, great kitchen. Wonderful town.

Westport (Trip Inn)-
The Trip Inn is like a a mansion from a murder-mystery. Great place with lovely hosts. Pity about the water shortage when I was there... Couldn't have a decent shower.

I hate:

Murchison (Lazy Cow)-
I didn't like the Lazy Cow at all. It was uninviting and scruffy. It was more like someones messy house than a backpackers. The beds squeak and are rickety too. Booked two nights, ended up staying only one and catching a bus (in the wrong direction) to Westport to get away.

Ok here is a question; I'm finishing my trip in the Nelson area and i'm looking for a good hostel in that area. I've been looking at Kaiteri Lodge as it look extremely close to the beach. Has anyone stayed at any other hostels, or that one, in the Nelson area that are really close to the water? I lived on the beach for a while and now live in the desert and i MISS waking up with the ocean at my door!!!

Or if not, just good places to stay in that area in general.

Auckland - Fat Camel

It's big, but the staff are great, the english dude who was on the desk was always a laugh, layout like a flat.
Obviously not a place to stay for a prolonged duration, but its great.

Taupo- Rainbow Lodge
Not sure what to say. ITS GREAT, STAY THERE!

Wellington - Nomads
again, a big hostel, but friendly. Not the cheapest, and can attract a party crowd. I liked it, but i was passing through Wellington with some friends.

Cairns- JJ's Backpackers
This place was my home for a few months. The owners are great. Free breakfast, free dinner (be it at the woolshed), small hostel, great crowd, good place to meet people...mellow vibe

Melbourne- All Nations- St Kila
Loved this place as well, stayed here for a week, real friendly staff, free bikes to use, free internet, free breakfast, good location.

Sydney- Pink House
Haha, what can i say about this place... It's a bit weird. But in a good way.
In the Kings Cross region of Sydney, just behind the Police Station....its great, free internet, breky, funky layout of the hostel, good staff...i stayed here by accident, but it was immense.
Friendly crowd.
