What is the maximum age to apply for an NZ Working Holiday Visa?

In general the maximum age for people applying for a Working Holiday visa is 30 however some lucky countries get up to age 35. You can apply right up to your 31st birthday and then have up to 1 year to activate your visa by arriving in NZ once approved so technically you could be almost 32 or 37 when you start your adventure in NZ.

If you are from the following countries you can apply to up to age 35:

  • Argentina
  • Canada
  • Chile
  • Czech Republic
  • Finland
  • Hungary
  • Slovakia
  • Uruguay
  • United Kingdom

For everyone else the age range is 18-30. Your age is assessed via your passport when NZ Immigration process your visa so you could technically apply a few days before your 31st birthday and still be granted a visa but this would be risky if there are delays at the Immigration offices.

Other key restrictions that can apply to the different schemes are that you are only allowed to work for a maximum of three months with an employer, you can't accept a permanent job, you can't bring any children with you and with some countries you can only apply for your WHV from your home country and not while already in NZ. It presently costs NZ$670 to get a visa from Immigration NZ and you can view more details on the schemes and apply at
