Casual Calf Rearer

๐Ÿ“ Location: Burnham, Canterbury (10โ€“15 minutes from Rolleston)

We are looking for a reliable and motivated Casual Calf Rearer to join our team from around the 3 August for approximately 10 weeks.

Position Details

  • Start Date: 3 August
  • Duration: Approximately 10 weeks
  • Hours: 30โ€“35 hours per week
  • Days: Saturday to Wednesday
  • Location: On-farm
  • On-farm accommodation is available if required (rent will be deducted from your wages).

About the Role

You will be responsible for rearing approximately 150 calves to a high standard. This is largely an independent role, so you must be comfortable working on your own while maintaining excellent animal welfare and hygiene standards.

Saturday and Sunday are full working days (approximately 8 hours each day). In addition to calf rearing, you will assist with collecting calves from the paddocks, assist with milking and may be required to help with other general farm duties as needed to cover staff days off.

Duties include:

  • Feeding milk and meal.
  • Monitoring calf health and wellbeing.
  • Cleaning and maintaining calf sheds and feeding equipment.
  • Identifying and reporting sick or injured calves.
  • Collecting calves from paddocks.
  • General calf rearing and animal husbandry tasks.
  • Assisting with other farm duties as required.

What We're Looking For

  • Good spoken and written English is essential.
  • Previous farming or calf rearing experience is preferred but not essential.
  • Full training will be provided for the right applicant.
  • A genuine interest in animal care and animal welfare.
  • Confidence handling livestock safely and calmly.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Reliable, punctual, and physically fit for farm work.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • A full driver's licence is preferred but not essential.
