Team Member Adventure Hostels

Position: Team Member at Urbanz Accommodation in central Christchurch
Starting date: 1 position starting immediately
Requirements: 3-month minimum commitment from all Team Members 

New Zealand’s best-rated hostel group, Adventure Hostels, are on the hunt for a vibrant, engaging & focused individual to join the team in Christchurch at Urbanz. 

This role is live-in only and great quality, discounted accommodation is provided as part of any team member role with Adventure Hostels. Reception work experience is preferred, but not necessary. Our small teams and variety of work duties require AH staff to be enthusiastic, dynamic, have solid interpersonal hospitality skills and a strong work ethic. 

As a Team Member you will get a minimum of 13 hours per week (more if the hostel is busy). 

Once per week you'll be expected to provide an on-call service in the evenings, this is for guests that may have locked themselves out, or late arrivals. 

Your home
Urbanz is a medium sized hostel, with space for 140 guests, which we think is the perfect size to generate the fun, friendly and familial atmosphere that our guests adore. All five of our Adventure Hostels' hostels are located in the heart of the destination or city, so you’re only a few minutes’ walk to everything on offer. Our great quality discounted staff accommodation is charged, and is taken from fortnightly payroll. All staff have a wooden, bespoke buillt bed with reading lights, curtains and USB charging ports.

Our Team Members will closely follow our well-developed procedures and systems, complete task checklists and will ensure that each and every interaction that they have with our guests is about maximising their experience at our hostels.

It’s effortlessly easy to make new friends or travel partners at Adventure Hostels. As part of your responsibilities, you’ll find yourself setting up and running pub quizzes from our dining room or taking the guests to the pub for a Killa Pool competition – all as part of our nightly house-run activities.

You’ll also hold the right to work within New Zealand, have a New Zealand bank account and IRD number already set up. 
Lastly, you’re committing to stay with us for at least the next three months.

 The nitty gritty

• The role encompasses all hostel related reception tasks.
• You’ll need to provide a great customer experience for all of our guests. Be attentive, social, and generally add positive enthusiasm to the overall atmosphere when not engaged with other duties.
• Processing guest check-ins, check-outs and the creation of new, extension and future bookings. You’ll also be responsible for collecting and inputting all Guest data required by Management, and as per our policies.
• Providing a hostel tour to all new arrivals, showcasing our amenities, facilities and generally welcoming each new guest into the Adventure family.
• Positively handling enquiries and any issues in person, by phone or email, or requesting the assistance of a manager when unable to.
• Accurate and honest recording of bookings and payments, taking and processing cash, credit and debit card payments and accurately logging these within our property management system (Ibex Seekom)
• To attempt to generate additional revenue for the Hostel through addon sales, tours and activity sales.
•  Occasionally performing housekeeping duties, which may include:
  – Changing of beds on check-out
  – Deep cleans of specific areas of the hostel
  – Daily kitchen & bathroom cleans
  – Vacuum and mopping of communal spaces
  – Washing of all linens using provided washing machines and dryers
  – Nightly kitchen closes between 10:00-11:00pm (rostered twice weekly)
• Responsible for setting-up, promoting and running a nightly hostel event to ensure that it operates to a decent standard and that guests are behaving in an appropriately responsible manner.
• Completing any additional tasks given to you by your line Manager. The additional tasks may include deep cleaning, administrative or maintenance related tasks. Adventure Hostels will never provide you with any tasks that you would be unable to complete either due to skill or physicality. Training will always be provided when needed.
• Always try to maintain professional attitude when inside the Hostel, urging Guests to follow the rules and to not encourage any behaviours deemed to be unwanted within the hostel. This also means reporting any discovered illicit activities or behaviours of Guests or Staff to Management immediately. Adventure Hostels do not condone or tolerate the use or storage of drugs on-site.
