Are you looking to hang out at the start of the awesome Abel Tasman for a while? We have a new availability for an awesome Reception, Housekeeper and All Rounder role until the end of June. A great opportunity for the right person so do get in touch.

We are The Barn Cabins and Camp out in the beautiful Marahau. Come on over and see what we are about. We have a range of accommodation and tourism options, a nursery, activities on our doorstep, farm-raised meat, a veggie garden and some chickens running around. There is also the Park Cafe down the road that does a great weekly open mic night.

We are looking for a fun, hard-working and enthusiastic person who is looking to have a great time working right at the start of the beautiful Abel Tasman National Park. The work will be housekeeping reception/sales/check in duties and keeping the place tidy, helping out in the nursery and odd jobs around the place. We are a tourism booking office so someone who is keen to experience the beautiful Abel Tasman and get into the outdoors who can then support guests with their trips is great! If you have experience in housekeeping, reception, tourism or other creative talents do let us know in your appplication. We really are looking for the right person who really wants to be here. The Barn is iconic and an experience for guests, and staff play an integral role in that. So it is important to be really sure this is right for you and you’re not just looking for a job to fill time. 

Ideal candidates should have:

Exceptional people skills, and the drive to ensure that travellers have a great experience at our accommodation in the Abel Tasman National Park.

The desire to learn new skills and grow, the ability to take on responsibility and problem solve ‘on the go’;

A background in reception, cash handling and/or promoting local activities;

Computer skills and the ability to learn how to use our reservation system;

Flexibility with working hours and tasks;

A background in house-keeping and attention to detail;

The ability to run a small team daily; producing a high standard of work within the time allowed (this is a hands-on role, you are part of the housekeeping team!);

A friendly personality, both with customers and other team members! We like to have fun here, and you should too!

Job details: 

  • Accommodation is provided onsite in your own shared facilities cabin for $150 per week.
  • Minimum stay is 10 weeks for this role, exceptions can be discussed for the right person.  
  • Must be available to work up to 5 days a week. Minimum hours are 15 per week, expected more like 25+ for the right person once fully trained and able to be independent in reception. 
  • Good attention to detail and able to be hands on with housekeeping and running a small.
  • We serve barista coffee here so it is a bonus to be able to make coffee, this is not essential (full training provided). 
  • Excellent customer service, great teamwork, problem solving, and a proactive nature will set you up well for this role. Being flexible working with others and on your own is important as some days are busy and some days are quiet. 
  • Must be available to be on call for up to 2x nights a week. 
  • Need to have a valid Working Holiday Visa, IRD tax number and a NZ bank account.
