Harvest Workers Required

Southern Seed Technology is an Agribusiness which provides arable seed production for National and International plant breeders. We work with barley, wheat and oats. We are currently looking for 1 or 2 people more to assist with our upcoming harvest. Harvest work will start around the 24th of  January and will last until the end of March/first week of Apil.

Our location is in Irwell, between Leeston and Lincoln, approximately 25km south of Christchurch.

Personal Profile:

-          Confident, energetic and self-motivated, preferably with an agricultural background but not essential as all training will be provided

-          English speaking effective communicator who enjoys the challenges of a busy and demanding work               environment

-          Can commit for at least a month, preferably for the entire harvest

-          Physically fit, amiable, enthusiastic and positive

-          New Zealand resident or hold a valid working holiday visa,  IRD number and bank account.

Job Description:

Primary tasks within the harvest department:

-          Sickling of Wheat, Barley, Oat and Linseed plots ( this job requires a lot of bending, so hope you have a good back)

-          Weeding 

-          Assisting with combine harvest

-          Threshing and cleaning of seed

-          Shed work

Due to the flexible nature of the industry, you must be able to sometimes work extended hours including weekends, when required, or potentially have days off or shorter days depending on the weather. The range of hours may be between 40 to 55 hours per week. Payment is $23 per hour + 8% holiday pay and overtime is paid if you work over 80 hours fortnighly, which means if you work the weekends, you'll be definitely in overtime.

Accommodation is not provided but there is some available locally and there are 3 free campsites nearby.
