Region: Christchurch & Canterbury Experience: No Experience Necessary

We’re looking for someone to join us on our little farm who enjoys variety and getting stuck into different tasks. There’s always a mixture of things to do here — from housework and childcare to cooking, gardening, calf rearing, general farm work, collecting calves locally, and the occasional tractor or quad bike duties.

A bit about the Farm:
We have two blocks, a 17ha and 30ha block and are looking to calf rear 500 calves from 4 days old. We also run a handful of older cattle which only need tending to occasionally. On our farm we also have a variety of pets ranging from 2 dogs, 2 cats, chickens, and a pony with the potential addition of 2 goats. Off farm we have other horses including Broodmares and youngstock, a stallion and a competition horse.

This role would best suit a single person with a happy-go-lucky, can-do attitude. Hours are flexible, and we’re happy to work around a part-time or casual off-farm job. German speaking would be an awesome bonus but not required. We are a semi bilingual household.

You’ll need your own car, as we’re located rurally — about 2 hours south of Christchurch, 20 minutes to Timaru, and an easy drive to the stunning Mackenzie region with its ski fields and lakes.

In exchange, we offer full board, a chance to live like a local, and a unique rural Kiwi experience. There are also riding opportunities, including competing at local shows — something not many backpackers get to experience!

We’re a family of four — Mum, Dad, a 5-year-old boy, and a 2-year-old girl — and we’re looking for someone who’ll fit into our family as if they’ve always been part of it.

Must have a valid work visa.
Start date: August through to December
Minimum stay: Ideally 4+ weeks

If this sounds like your kind of adventure, we’d love to hear from you!
