At MSME, we specialise in sheet metal work, CNC laser cutting, brake pressing, welding, custom fabrication, and structural steel design and fabrication. Based in Warkworth, we proudly serve clients across Auckland and beyond—known for our fast turnarounds, smart solutions, and top-quality results.
We’re currently looking for a part-time mechanical engineering student with strong SolidWorks skills to support our design and production team. This is an ideal opportunity to build your practical knowledge in a workshop-based environment while applying what you’re learning in class.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll be working directly with our experienced team to support a range of real engineering projects. Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Creating accurate 3D models and 2D technical drawings using SolidWorks
- Assisting with sheet metal and structural steel design for fabrication
- Preparing files for laser cutting, folding, and welding operations
- Supporting project planning, costing, and job scheduling
- Maintaining clear documentation and drawing records
- Collaborating with the team to solve practical design and manufacturing challenges
This is a part-time role with flexible hours to fit around your study schedule. You’ll be based at our Warkworth workshop, working alongside a supportive and skilled crew.
What We’re Looking For
✅ Currently studying Mechanical Engineering or a similar field
✅ Solid working knowledge of SolidWorks
✅ An interest in sheet metal, fabrication, and structural steel
✅ A proactive and positive attitude – willing to learn and ask questions
✅ Strong attention to detail and communication skills
✅ Bonus: Experience with CNC, laser nesting, or hands-on workshop work
