Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Farm Assistant for a fixed term position lasting three months, from July 10th-  October th. The role involves assisting with various labour needs on the farm and working closely with a  motivated female farm owner. This position offers the opportunity for sponsorship and is located 30 minutes south of Rotorua in a small rural community. Having your own transport is essential, as well as the ability to take care of yourself, since the job requires strength and endurance. New Zealand conditions can be challenging at times.

Working Hours

  • Minimum hours: 20 - 60 hours during peak periods
  • Work schedule: 6 days on, 1 day off
  • Shifts: Can start from 4am-9am and 1pm-5pm, with milking twice per day

Responsibilities

  • Opening and shutting gates
  • Assisting with temporary fencing
  • Moving stock
  • All labour duties 
  • Applying minerals to the pastures, feed, or water
  • Fueling farm vehicles
  • Removal of dead stock
  • On-farm repairs and maintenance, including cowshed hygiene
  • Hosing down and hanging hoses
  • Assisting with drafting stock in the cowshed and in the paddock
  • Lifting calves into the trailer, catching, and transporting them safely to the calf sheds for feeding
  • Assisting with all milking duties, including stacking, cupping, drafting, hosing, yard setup, etc.

Skills and Requirements

  • At least 3 months of experience in milking cows
  • English language skills
  • Ability to drive a manual vehicle and a 4-wheel motorbike
  • Physical fitness to carry up to 30kgs each day during the calving period (ending September)
  • Reliable work ethic and dedication to the role
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Mechanical knowledge
