Work Exchange At The Barn

Are you looking to hang out at the start of the awesome Abel Tasman for a while? We have space for an awesome allrounder starting next week for a minimum of 4 weeks! 

We are The Barn Cabins and Camp out in the beautiful Marahau. Come on over and see what we are about. We have a range of accommodation and tourism options, a nursery, activities on our doorstep, cows and some chickens running around. 

We provide your accommodation - in exchange for 12 hours work a week at $23.95 hour (gross). This is a live in-position staying in a shared facilities cabin and your accommodation and expenses would be deducted from your weekly pay. This is the equivalent of the old rule working for accommodation. Laundry and all bills are included, you provide your own food.

For this work exchange, the hours are spread over 4 days a week and approximately 3 hours a day. We do have a weekly roster and on busier days for the right person there is the possibility of more hours work however this is never guaranteed.

Accommodation: The cabin is private and the bathroom and kitchen are shared onsite. The kitchen is fully equipped to make your meals! There is the option to camp or stay in your van, just let us know your preference. 

What is the work? The work includes predominantly housekeeping during the turnover (houses, glamping, cabins, facilities - bathrooms, kitchens, etc.), and keeping the Barn tidy with odd jobs around the place such as cleaning, some gardening and yard work. Cleaning experience is helpful however not essential for this role. Being fit and keen to jump in to get things done with our awesome team is required. A good eye for detail, being able to take initiative and being able to work within a team or on your own helps. We are looking for efficiency and good standards of work.

The Barn is iconic and a special experience for guests, and our staff play an integral role in that. So therefore, it is important to be sure this is right for you and you’re not just looking for a "job" to fill time. As we are in the off season we are looking for someone who is comfortable in a beautiful, quiet place and happy to join in for group pot lucks or adventures with the small crew. 

How long is required? We are looking for people that can stay for a minimum of 4 weeks, longer is welcomed for the right person/people too.  

Requirements: A great attitude! You also must have the right to work in New Zealand (citizen, permanent resident or work visa not SSE), have an IRD number, and NZ bank account.
