Shamarra Alpaca Farm is a working alpaca farm and tourist destination overlooking Akaroa Harbour. We run daily farm tours and proudly showcase our exclusive collection of alpaca knitwear in our on-farm shop.

We have a position available for a Farm Tour Guide

We’re looking for an energetic, personable, and reliable individual with a genuine passion for animals, who can confidently guide visitors from all over the world around our farm. Mandarin-speaking candidates are preferred, but fluent English is essential. 

Key Responsibilities

• Lead engaging, informative, and entertaining farm tours for groups of all sizes, ages and nationalities.
• Share knowledge of alpacas, our farm, and our knitwear products with warmth and enthusiasm.
• Assist in retail sales within the farm shop and promote our alpaca knitwear collection.
• Provide support for social media content creation and occasionally represent Shamarra at off-farm events.
• Help with general farm tasks and routine maintenance as required.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Requirements

• Fluent English (Mandarin-speaking a plus).
• A friendly, outgoing personality with great communication skills.
• Passion for animals – experience with alpacas, horses, or livestock an advantage.
• Previous customer service, tourism, or retail experience desirable.
• A strong team player, self-motivated with initiative.
• Must be physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Flexibility to work weekends, public holidays, and variable hours.
• Must have NZ residency or valid NZ work visa, plus a full NZ driver’s licence.
