Fixed term 3 Month Maintenance Team Member / Generalist

 

About the business and the role

Tekapo Springs is an award-winning tourist destination located on the edge of the stunning lake Tekapo in the Mackenzie district. We offer summer and winter activities including hot pools, an aqua play and cooler deep pool, a snow tube-park, ice rink, an inflatable waterslide and inflatable obstacle course, a fully equipped day spa and licensed café.  We also operate star gazing tours at night.

 

About the role and team

The Maintenance team plays a crucial role in ensuring all of these facilities remain safe, tidy, functional and deliver a premium experience for our guests. It is a highly varied and hands on role requiring a lot of initiative and self-direction.

As a member of our Maintenance team you will work in a team of 4-5 maintenance staff and take on a wide variety of interesting and important tasks as described below.

 

 

Job tasks and responsibilities

This roll includes a large variety of tasks including but not limited to...

  • Ensuring our pools are kept operating and water quality maintained.
  • Working with water pumps and filtration systems.
  • Checking and basic maintenance of refrigeration plant and associated components.
  • Logging data for machinery, Pool, refrigeration, and associated plant.
  • Cutting and storing firewood (Chainsaw & Log Splitter use)
  • General cleaning tasks as required to support other business units.
  • Gardening maintenance, irrigation, and landscaping.
  • Operating heavy Machinery as required including a Forklift and small excavators.
  • Ice Rink preparation and Ice maintenance.
  • Make snow and servicing snow-making equipment.
  • Snow groomer operation and maintenance.
  • Carpentry/building
  • First aid skills.
  • Basic IT and computer skills.
  • Technical writing, creation and review of Standard Operating Procedures and Policies.
  • Assisting in writing weekly / monthly Job Task lists for the maintenance team.
  • Follow-up to ensure completion of these assigned tasks.
  • Friendly and outgoing personality as we often interact with our customers.

 

Skills and experience

To take on a role as varied as the above we are after someone with a mature mindset who is a jack of all trades with transferrable skills, learns fast and prefers no two days alike.

We will provide training on each required area of the role but the more experience you do have the quicker you will pick up the parts you do not know. Qualifications will be an advantage i.e., WTR-F however after a qualifying period we will assist the new employee with external training and qualifications as required.

Skills and experience in these areas would be a great advantage however we are happy to provide training to the right person with a longer term outlook.

 

  • Have a trade related background
  • Health and Safety focused
  • Driving and operating machines (WTR F)
  • Full NZ Drivers licence
  • Understanding of water and plumbing systems
  • Basic computer skills
  • Attention to detail and pride in your workplace
  • General handyman skills
  • Use and understanding of tools & power tools
  • Mechanical knowledge and understanding
