Reception & Guest Services Assistant – Live-In Opportunity

We are seeking a friendly, reliable, and organised Reception & Guest Services Assistant to join our busy CBD hostel team.

This is a part-time position of approximately 12 hours per week, with on-site accommodation available by separate agreement for the right person.

About the role

You will be one of the welcoming faces of the hostel, helping create a positive experience for guests from around the world. The role includes a mix of reception, guest support, and light operational tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Welcoming guests and managing check-ins and check-outs
• Responding to guest questions, requests, and concerns professionally
• Assisting with bookings, emails, phone calls, and payment processing
• Providing local information, recommendations, and directions
• Keeping reception and common areas tidy, organised, and welcoming
• Supporting the team with room checks, linen, laundry, and light housekeeping tasks when required
• Reporting maintenance, cleanliness, safety, or guest issues promptly
• Following hostel procedures for security, cash handling, and shift handovers

About you

• Friendly, approachable, and confident speaking with people from different backgrounds
• Excellent English communication skills; another language is an advantage
• Previous reception, hospitality, tourism, customer service, or hostel experience is preferred
• Highly organised, reliable, and attentive to detail
• Comfortable working independently and taking initiative
• Calm and professional when dealing with guest concerns
• Available for a mixture of weekday, weekend, and occasional evening shifts
• Hold a valid New Zealand work visa or have the legal right to work in New Zealand
• Comfortable living in a shared hostel environment, if accepting the accommodation option
