Dairy Farm Assistant Work

Looking for a NZ country farming experience? We are located next to the beautiful Elephant Rocks in North Otago, two hours drive to the adventure playgrounds of Wanaka and Queenstown and 25 minutes to NZs coolest town Oamaru! We require a couple to join us and assist in the day to day jobs required of running our dairy farms during the busy calving season. 

Calving is the busiest time of the year, with all the cows calving over August and September there is plenty happening.  Responsibilities would include general dairy farm work such as milking, moving and drafting cows, calf collection, mineral and feed supplementation. General farm maintenance such as fencing repairs, spraying weeding, and mowing lawns. depending on skills of the person it could also involve some work assisting with the calf rearing, or could involve some machinery work. We can also make jobs to suit with building, carpentry experience or other practical skills. We have cool cow collar technology called Halter where we can remotely move cows from our phones and the cows use cues from their collars for virtual fencing so they are interesting farms where we are using technology to our advantage.

The job start/finish date is flexible but ideally starting from around June-July, and ideally we would like you until at least December so we can give the rest of the guys plenty of help over the busy season. Some previous experience working on a farm or with animals or being able to ride a motorbike would be an advantage but not a prerequisite.

The most important qualities we are looking for are people who are a quick learners and love to work positively in a team. You need to be able to listen, communicate English clearly, have a drivers license, and your own transport.
