Picking Assistant

At Kaipaki berries we normally harvest between November and May.

Some farm work can be quite physical but it’s extremely rewarding. A number of tasks involve manual work including lifting, bending and twisting so workers need to be fit and healthy as well as have a positive attitude.

Our polytunnels also create a more pleasant working environment. Being undercover protects our workers from the elements and we grow on tables so we don’t have work at ground-level.

Kaipaki Berries is looking for someone who is reliable with a good attendance record, proactive, multitasking people with good work ethics, quick and nimble, attention to detail, can lift up to 20kgs, who are able to work as part of a team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in leading the team to meet quality and efficiency standards
• Assist team in picking when needed
• Assist in servicing harvest equipment
• Transporting fruit from site to cool room
• Scanning and allocating fruit

SELECTION CRITERIA

• Driver licence
• Forklift ticket - desirable
• 1-2 years’ experience in the industry is advantageous
• 1-2 years’ experience in a leadership role preferred
• Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession
• Willing and able to work in the elements (outdoors in all weather conditions)
• Ability to communicate effectively (with diverse nationalities)
• Flexibility is essential (must be available to work weekends), as crops growth/harvest is weather dependent and may be irregular
• Be available for early morning starts with possible extra hours of work to ensure jobs are done, all crops are picked and packed as required by management and dependent on the crop demands
• Be fit and healthy, with good flexibility
• Exhibit a commitment to safety in all aspects of work
• Not be colour blind or vision impaired
• Ability to acquire good speed and to learn manual tasks
• Ability to follow instructions, learn and apply new process quickly
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to measure and calculate crates / pallets
• Ability to work in a team environment
