Region: Christchurch & Canterbury Experience: No Experience Necessary

Hi

I am looking for a caregiver/rehab assistance/support person for a 39 year old male recovering from a car accident.

Hours available..... (this is a bit difficult to explain, it is a contract position, there are really no set hours, it’s a fixed weekly amount with a lot of down time where you can relax or go to the river/lake, it’s more for me to have someone around incase I need assistance)  40 hours paid plus accommodation and living expenses included based on a 7 day week. I have casual staff who can cover days off/holidays and the pay is adjusted accordingly for that week.

A rough guide - Start and finish times will vary.
Monday to Friday start 7.15am
Saturday and Sunday 9am.
It would struggle to be more than 25 hours of actual hands on work a week and most of that would be walking the dogs on the farm the rest of the time it's kind of like being on call.

Suits capable individuals, mature couples or friends travelling together

Currently I have a couple, one helps me out and the other works full time on the farm. Instead of weekends off they prefer to work 3 weeks on, one week off so they can plan their trips and get the most time at each location instead of just driving a lot and doing little

It is very basic everyday type work. If you have any relevant life experience that would be a bonus (physio, personal trainer, played competitive sport). It involves house keeping, cooking, must like dogs as I have two golden retrievers.

Motivated, very clean, are interested in exercise, enjoy food and can cook well.
Are sociable, can relax have a drink if you like and be able to entertain themselves. There are a lot of good hiking trails within easy driving distance .
Likes the outdoors and is keen to give things a go. .

It is a live in arrangement with food and living expenses all included

Does not suit someone who is lazy or untidy. If you're the kind of person who walks past something that needs attention 5 times before you sort it out then you won't fit in here sorry.

Daily tasks would include:
- Assistance with passive stretching and rehab exercizes, light strength training, pilates. All at home. Teaching provided.
- Meal preparation (you don't need to be a chef but you do need to be competent and have cooking as something you are interested in, read and care about)
- general house work, cleaning, laundry

- mowing lawns (ride on), keeping vegetable garden

- Walking, feeding, entertaining dogs. They are walked twice a day on the farm and will follow you everywhere.

No previous experience necessary.
English speaking please
Must be a NZ resident or hold the appropriate work visa.

Ideally hold a full drivers license as a car is provided and I require driving to appointments.
Prefer people who are looking to be in the area ideally no less than 3 months, most people end up staying longer than 6 months.

Happy to arrange for you to speak with previous contractors and can email more specifics if you like.

Position available to start at beginning of September to allow a few days overlap with the existing couple.

The accommodation is a modern 3 bedroom home with 2 bathrooms

I have an ensuite off my room and you would have your own bathroom 95% of the time. (you would share if I have guests staying)

There is a separate toilet.

There is a kitchen/living area, separate lounge, large deck and lawn, gym.

Geraldine village is about 15 minutes away by car. It's quite small and very much centred around tourism and agriculture with the surrounding area being crop, dairy, mixed dry stock farms.

It’s 1.5hr drive to Mt Cook national park, 2.5hrs to Wanaka and 2 hours to Christchurch.

I would describe the town as small, very safe and peaceful with a strong community vibe

The house and grounds are very secure.

I live in the house by myself (plus you) which is situated on a 700 acre sheep, cattle and deer farm. I grew up locally so have a lot of friends and family in the area. When not at the farm I try and spend time at my bach near Lake Tekapo

I haven’t worked since my accident but previously I worked for a bank as a foreign currency dealer.

I broke my neck in the accident and suffered spinal damage. I’m a C5 ASIA D tetraplegic, I am able to walk around the house with a frame and can drive my car/atv etc. Fatigue is probably my biggest challenge. I require assistance with a manual wheelchair when out in public

Things I enjoy include food, whiskey, horse racing, fishing, shooting. I read, listen to music, watch movies while I’m resting.

If you use Facebook or Instagram please add the link to your application. As it's a live in position it's nice to see who you're speaking to.
