We live on a small farm near Christchurch - 20 minutes from the airport.  Dave was a builder who now chooses to be his own boss so we have set up small businesses from home including dog stays and accommodation. Julie is a teacher. Dad lives here too. We grow our own firewood, beef, lamb, pork, eggs, vegetables and honey. It is a lifestyle choice NOT a business and is based on a philosophy of caring for the environment, humane treatment of animals and sustainability of resources.  It is hard work and takes a lot of time, energy and committment.
You would help with gardening, fencing, fire-wood, general farm maintenance, animal care - cows, sheep, dogs and food production so you shouldnt be scared of hard work and getting dirty!

This is not a paid job - accommodation and good meals provided in exchange for a minimum 41/2 hours per day.  There is warm accommodation on a mezzanine floor above the lounge.

There will however be some paid part-time work with Dave that is not related to the farm.  He does part-time roofing treatments and someone to help can be useful.  Good weather only.

Meals -
Breakfast -toast, cereal and milk, Lunch - sandwiches or left overs from dinner
Dinner - Good healthy evening meals. Can do vegetarian but not vegan.
This is a minimum of 7 days, to start with then we discuss your length of stay depending on weather.  Please do not apply if you do not appreciate the time and effort we put into making tasty meals or if you are a fussy eater with an attitude of not wanting to try new foods.  We have the very best organic free range produce NZ  produced right here - pork, lamb, beef, honey and eggs from rescued factory hens.  Our animals are all loved and treated with respect even when destined for our table.

We have had people wanting to improve their English before starting paid work, also helped with choosing or selling vechiles. Others want to experience living with a kiwis on a lifestyle farm. Everyone has loved our food as this is our passion, both having owned restaurants and have food qualifications. Some have returned several times over as they tour the country and have told us it is the best they have had anywhere.

We are very clean in the house and do not wear shoes inside.  We are non-smoking so smokers are outside only.

We provide some working clothes so your own clothes dont get ruined.

Work is  41/2 Hours minimum per day. That is 30 hours total per week minimum.  Most choose to do more as they feel they are learning valuable skills.

On days off - we prefer you leave the farm to give you and us a break. You can go on day trips to Akaroa or Hanmer Springs, city sightseeing e.g. the museum or markets & we provide an evening meal when you return.
Your own car is preferred. We live handy to Kaiapoi, Rangiora towns and 20 mins from city but there is no bus.

We need people used to physical work as this takes strength and energy.  We don't have time to wait for nice days to work outside - animals need to be fed and there are always things to do regardless of the weather.

Can you work unsupervised and still work efficiently to get things done?  Sometimes Dave is held up with hosting bed & breakfast guests in the morning so we you need to have initiative to organise yourself for a couple of hours.

If expressing interest - START DATES PLEASE.
