Work Exchange At The Barn!

Are you looking to hang out at the start of the awesome Abel Tasman for a while? That's where we are! We have space for 1 person starting a soon as possible! The earlier you can be here is a bonus as the work is on now before winter sets in.

We are The Barn Cabins and Camp out in the beautiful Marahau. Come on over and see what we are about. We have a range of accommodation and tourism options, a nursery, activities on our doorstep, farm-raised meat, a veggie garden, and some chickens running around. 

We provide your accommodation - the role is for a minimum of 12 hours work a week (over 4 days) at $22.70 hour (gross). This is a live in-position staying in a shared facilities cabin and your accommodation and expenses will be deducted from your weekly pay which is the equivalent of the old rule working for accommodation,

For this work exchange, your 12 hours work covers accommodation, usually round 3 hours a day over 4 days a week, we have a weekly roster too. The difference is paid out. The cabin is a shared facilities cabin with one other person of the same gender (or if you're a couple you can share the cabin together). On busier days there is the possibility of more work however this is not guaranteed.

What is the work? The work includes predomninantly housekeeping (houses, glamping, cabins, facilities, etc), and keeping the Barn tidy with odd jobs around the place such as cleaning, some gardening and yard work. No experience required, just being keen to jump in and the flexibility to work with our awesome team as needed. A good eye for detail, being able to take initiative and being able to work within a team helps.

Current work: We have an opening within our team which would be a combinaion of tasks including (but not limited to) Outdoor maintenance, scrub clearing, assisting with burn piles, pruning and repotting in our tree nursery, basic daily maintenance, painting, landscaping, housekeeping and facility cleaning.

We love to keep improving the Barn and bringing fresh ideas to the space. We are really looking for the right people who want to be here. The Barn is iconic and a special experience for guests, and our staff play an integral role in that. So it is important to be really sure this is right for you and you’re not just looking for a "job" to fill time. 

How long is required? We are looking for people that can stay for a minimum of 2 weeks, longer is welcomed for the right person/people too.

Requirements: You must hold a working visa (Not SSE), IRD number, and bank account number to apply for this role. Experience with power tools is a plus, but not a requirement
