We seek a dairy farm assistant (must have some cattle handling experience) in Pokuru - 12km from Te Awamutu and 20km from Otorohanga. The starting date can be anytime between now and June however we need someone willing to stay till the end of September to help manage our calving period. We farm 700 crossbred cows on a well-developed 200ha unit. The property offers excellent infrastructure and equipment including a modern 50 bale rotary cowshed with automation and a feedpad with floodwash system. Farm objective is to run an efficient pasture-based system with strategic use of maize and imported feed when required. We aim to provide a supportive working environment with some mentoring, willing to help a keen individual understand and develop modern dairying practices if interested. We are happy to cater the position somewhat if you wish to travel or tour whilst remaining employed.
Duties may include but are not limited to Milking morning and/or afternoon; Moving stock; feeding/ teaching calves; assisting with animal health as required; Weed spraying, Permanent fencing; Cleaning plant and equipment; Tractor work (depending on capability) and other farm maintenance
We are flexible with allowing time off - great for those interested in traveling the county while retaining a job.
Accommodation is a one-bedroom home. The home is warm and well-maintained. Power and an internet connection are readily available. Farm motorbikes are provided for the position.
