If you want to get a taste of life on a real New Zealand working farm, and you're keen to jump in the saddle, then Oropi Bushlands Horse Treks will be right up your alley.
At 1100ft above sea level, Oropi Bushlands is quite unique and a great place to while away an hour or two on horseback.
There are treks for all levels of ability and experience, so it doesn't matter if you've never put your feet in stirrups before or if you're a champion rider, they will cater the trek to suit you.
There are unlimited trekking routes to follow, and routes will be chosen to suit the individual riders and their levels of experience. Treks start at the minimum of one hour but can be designed around what you want to do and how much time you've got.
There's a great mix of farm, wooded area and bush, so make sure you don't forget your camera as there's plenty of great shots along the way.
And if you're feeling up for a trot or a canter, there will be a chance to feel the wind in your hair as you clip clop along with a massive smile on your face.
Oropi Bushlands is 1100 feet above sea level so the temperature is generally 2-3 degrees cooler than in Tauranga. So make sure you bring a warm jersey/jacket. Long trousers and covered footwear are also essential.
All helmets and horse tack are provided.
Make sure you arrive at least 15 minutes before the trek start to meet your horse and to choose the right sizes for safety helmets etc.
Prices start from $45 per person for one hour riding.
