The time has finally come to sell our beloved van, “Betty”, the little Mazda E2000 that could do it all!

We’ve lived in Betty since we bought her in Auckland in March 2018 and since then we have driven all across New Zealand and have enjoyed over 9000 trouble free kilometers on New Zealand’s most incredible roads!

The important stuff:

  • 204,000km, 2.0Litre Unleaded, rear wheel drive, manual and super easy to drive (11L/100km fuel economy)
  • WOF and REGO until July 2019 (passed WOF 3 days ago with zero issues)
  • Self Contained until January 2021
  • 3 person front bench seat / 2 person double bed (easily folds into table for easy cooking inside)
  • 2 x memory foam pillows, 1 x duvet, 1 extra blanket and sheets duvet cover etc
  • Roof rack
  • Stereo with AUX input
  • Towbar (2000kg load)
  • Gas cooker with 5kg bottle + portable gas stove for camping
  • Unused portable toilet
  • Solar shower
  • Fully equipped kitchen, including all cooking utensils (frying pan, pots, coffee pot, cutlery, cutting board, bowls, cups etc)
  • Solar panel and power bank for charging phones/laptops/cameras etc
  • 12V fridge for supercold beers
  • Privacy curtains on all sides of the bed
  • 20L clean and 20L waste water containers with built in sink unit
  • Comes with all cooking and sleeping equipment needed and extra stuff like a tarpaulin, jump leads, camping chais and more!

Our roadtrip took us all the way through the North Island and down to Queenstown where we spent most of the winter. Even when temperatures dipped below zero, Betty the van would always start first time thanks to the manual choke and strong alternator, and even despite her small size, she was powerful enough to help jump-start other vans that just couldn’t get going.

The 2.0litre engine is a great little runner, easily cruising at 80-90km/h, and although she prefers to take the hills at a relaxed pace, the 5-speed manual gearbox could easily handle the 16% climb over Arthur’s Pass. She’s very economical and we’ve consistently averaged 11L/100km from the 40L fuel tank. We just finished a 1700km trip around the South Island, visiting Mt Cook and the West Coast and she ran absolutely fine the whole way, didn’t miss a beat!

Just passed the Warrant of Fitness (WOF) with absolutely zero issues, rare for a van of this age! WOF and REGO valid until July 2019, and Self-Contained certified until January 2021.

In the back, the van is kitted out with a double bed that can be folded away into a little table area that can comfortably fit 2/3 people. There’s loads of space under the bed for storage, and a hidden compartment to store away anything valuable when you’re parked up.

When it’s time to cook up a feast, there’s a little gas cooker fuelled by a 5kg gas bottle. The van is fitted with a 20L clean water tank that pours into alittle sink for washing dishes which drains into a 20L waste water tank. There’s plenty of storage for your dry foods, as well as pots, pans, cutlery, mugs etc. that can be packed away neatly into drawers and shelves. Not only that, but there’s also a small fridge for keeping your beer and wine cold, perfect for the warm summer nights.

When we bought the van, we also bought a 30W solar panel and a 42Ah portable power bank that holds the charge from the solar panel. The power bank has an AC output, 3 x USB ports, and 3 x DC 12v output, which we used to charge our laptops, phones, and cameras whilst on the road.

Betty the Mazda E2000 was a loyal companion on our New Zealand adventure, and although we’re sad to be selling the van and we wish we could keep her forever, we hope that her new owners will love her and enjoy her as much as we did!
