Subaru Legacy Lancaster 2001

located in Auckland and listed under Cars & Campervans

We are selling our beloved Subaru Legacy Lancaster (EZ 30 6 cylinder) because we are leaving New Zealand. It’s got Registration until 28/06/2018 and WOF until 09/2018. The good thing is, if you have to renew the WOF, you get it for a whole year instead of half a year because the car was built after 2000.

We’ve had it for 3 months and it is a second-generation backpacker’s car. We bought it with 273.000 km and took it in for a fresh engine oil and filter change. Also, all four tyres have been changed at 263.000 km (reliable Bridgestone Supercat R16 and not the bad cheap stuff).  Now the car has 276.000 km and hasn’t used a single drop of engine oil. From the outside you can see that it’s got a few scratches normal for that age.

The car is chain-driven, so you don’t need to worry about changing the cambelt (like in the 2.5 and 2.0 engines)! It is very reliable and smooth to drive. It is a very safe car, with 4 airbags, nearly new and good tyres, good brakes and 4WD. The 4WD and the fact that the Lancaster is bit higher than the normal Legacy comes in quite handy on some NZ roads, such as the many gravel roads on the way to some campgrounds.  It also has got an alarm system, central locking, electrical window lifts and driver’s seat controls, ice-cold AC and a new JVC radio with aux cord and Bluetooth speakerphone. On 100 kms it only needs 8.5 litres of petrol. The size of the car is comparable to a Mercedes E-class, Audi A6 off road, BMW 5 series, Volvo XC 70...., so you have heaps of space in the trunk and can also fit a mattress!

The car comes with a (huge) 6-person tent. There’s lots of space inside, even for 2 chairs and a table, so it’s no problem to spend a rainy day inside the tent. It comes also with lots of other camping gear, such as:

Comfy Mattress (150x200cm)

2 fluffy pillows

2 Camping chairs

1 Inflatable air lounger

1 camping table

1 large tarp for the tent

Stove, plates, cutlery, pan, bbq, boxes, Air pump and additional camping supplies

The price for the camping gear would be NZD 250 on top. So, if you want to use it as a backpacker car you’re practically ready to go!

Before buying a campervan or car we recommend that you get the vehicle checked by an independent mechanic or have an inspection by the AA undertaken to ensure there are no major faults or problems. If you are renting or taking advantage of a buyback scheme make sure you have a valid contract in place.
