Hokitika is a small township founded during the gold rush. Nowadays it is a small but fully functioning beach-side town and the only one on the West Coast! It has lots of independent shops and boutiques as well as bars, cafes and restaurants. Hokitika is also famous for its greenstone or pounamu which can be carved into beautiful jewellery.
